On a related note, your humble author has been on the hunt for a new job since February, so if anyone out there has leads on a great opportunity, please send them my way!

So, that out of the way, this week I thought I’d bring the whole Motorball/Skate Gang thing to a close with the final piece. We’ve had hoverskates, and we’ve had our Roller Derby theme, but what about the more mundane, and faster, wheeled skates? This is a sci-fantasy future though, so I’m not talking about the kind of skates your mom used for roller-disco. These skates are fast. Rocket fast.

BASIC ROCKETBLADES

Level 1; Price 500

Capacity 20; Usage 1/15 minutes

Hands –; Bulk 1

Description

Popular with extreme sport enthusiasts, urban free runners, athletic hobbyists, and a variety of street gangs, rocketblades are the ticket to the fast lane in an urban pedestrian environment. The skates require a swift action to engage or disengage, and once activated provide a land speed enhancement bonus of +5 feet. You can move overland without issue, but instead of the bonus take a -5 feet penalty to your land speed in difficult terrain. When you take a move action to move your speed, you can increase your land speed by 15 feet by overcharging your basic rocketblades. This extra movement is treated as an enhancement bonus and does not stack with the regular +5 feet bonus. The basic rocketblades must cool down for 10 minutes before you can overcharge them again.

The upgrade to basic rocketblades, elite rocketblades function in much the same manner. The skates require a swift action to engage or disengage, and once activated provide a land speed enhancement bonus of +10 feet. You can move overland without issue, but instead of the bonus take a -5 feet penalty to your land speed in difficult terrain. When you take a move action to move your speed, you can increase your land speed by 25 feet by overcharging your elite rocketblades. This extra movement is treated as an enhancement bonus and does not stack with the regular +10 feet bonus. The basic rocketblades must cool down for 1 minute before you can overcharge them again.
