Starfinder – Piloting the Cube

In general, I don’t much care for April Fools as a holiday. The origin is dubious, and the celebration of it is so often mean spirited. Pranks, in general, have never appealed to me. I do like something silly and fun though, so in that vein I thought I’d go back to the Mech system from Tech Revolution and see just how far we can push the concept.

First off, nothing in the mech rules states they have to be strict steel and electronic machines, and there are even magical and techno-magical elements you can incorporate into the build. Furthermore, Starfinder armors include environmental protections more than sufficient to combat a mildly acidic environment. All of which means there is no reason you can’t have a giant Gelatinous Cube as a mech!

Gelatinous Cube Mech

Our concept here is a huge cube of highly engineered jell that reacts to the pilot and/or pilots such that it functions as a vehicle, responding to chemical and psychic signals to respond to their whims. Mech tier is 6 (roughly double the CR of the PF1 Cube) so we’ll start with 105 build points. We’ll go with the Skirmisher frame (12 mech points), and a Dynamo mk3 power core (18 mech points) with the Corpsegnawer template (an extra 3 mech points) to reflect the cube’s ability to convert biomass to fuel. For weapon systems the Acid Dart Rifle is a no-brainer, and the Hammerfist can be customized to do half bludgeoning and half acid. The rest of our mech points go to upgrades, with a little extra for the ooze features (blindsight, electricity immunity, movement penalty).

And there we have it. A big oozy mech that fights in any square corridor 😊
